Roma ISD Honors Visual Art Teachers, Students For Earning 2023 TAEA Distinction Award
Roma ISD's School Board and Administration honored the district's Visual Art Program students and teachers for earning the Texas Art Education Association's 2023 District of Distinction Recognition Award!
"Is it quite an honor for our district to receive this prestigious award, which demonstrates the commitment of our teachers and the enormous talent of our students," said Roma ISD Superintendent Carlos M. Gonzalez Jr. "Only 18 districts received the award this year and we are just one of 68 other districts with this distinction in the entire state of Texas, and putting our art program in the top 5.5% of visual art programs in the state! At Roma ISD we are teaching students to think beyond boundaries. Visual art is not just about creating beautiful paintings or sculptures; it is a powerful tool for developing creativity, imagination, and critical thinking in young minds. We are so proud of all of you!"
Superintendent Gonzalez also assured all attendees of his commitment to the arts at Roma ISD, and his vision to expand visual and performing arts programs to all district elementary schools.
During the event, students enjoyed a program honoring their accomplishment, a pizza and cupcake party, received a special pin from Superintendent Gonzalez, and enjoyed a performance by Roma High School's award-winning Varsity Orchestra.
Roma ISD Visual Art Program representatives will attend the TAEA Fall Conference in November 2023, where the award will be officially presented to Roma ISD.
