Roma High Students Complete CNA Program

Roma High School students recently completed an intensive 100-hour Certified Nurse’s Assistant Program at Rio Grande Valley College in Pharr, Texas. The CNA program offered students an opportunity to become introduced to nursing and learn the fundamental skills needed to become a competent and knowledgeable patient care provider. The students learned to communicate and interact effectively with patients and the patient family members; assist patients in attaining and maintaining maximum functional independence; maintain the rights of residents, patients, and clients; apply proper body mechanics in bed making, lifting, and turning patients; perform basic First Aid, CPR, and take patient vital signs and follow infection control measures.

Students also worked directly with patients as they completed their clinical experience at Edinburg Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Students earned a Certificate of Completion for the Nurse’s Aide Program from RGV College. They are now eligible to take the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services (DADS) Nurse Assistant Certification Examination in order to register as a Certified Nurse’s Assistant upon successfully passing the exam.

Congratulations to Roma High School students Yvette Alanis, Jenevy Garza, Briana Gonzalez, Nailea Gonzalez, Galilea Martinez, Aleks Ochoa Garcia, William Ramirez, Valeria Rangel, Janella Rodriguez, Sergio Salinas, Brian Serna Jr., and Estefanie Trevino for sacrificing part of their summer vacation to continue to expand their knowledge as they prepare for a future career in the health care field!

Special recognition to Mr. Milton Barrera who supervised the students throughout the duration of the program.
