Roma ISD Mariachi Program Sweeps Top Awards at FESTIBA


Congratulations goes to the Roma ISD Mariachi Program students who swept all the top awards at the 2019 FESTIBA Mariachi Competition. Not only did Roma High School’s Mariachi Nuevo Santander earn 1st place in the 5A Division Competition, the students also earned awards from best violins, trumpets, and vocals. Ultimately their stellar performance earned them the 2019 FESTIBA Grand Champion 4A-6A Title!


In the middle school division the program had an equally terrific evening. Roma Middle School’s Mariachi Escandon earned 1st Place in the Middle School Category and earned all caption awards for violins, trumpets, rhythm and vocals. Ramiro Barrera Middle School earned 3rd Place In the category. Also, in the Middle School Vocalists Competition Jelayna Barrera of Ramiro Barrera Middle School earned 1st Place and Annalisa Pena of Roma Middle School earned 3rd Place.


“The students went out and showed that they are the best of the best in mariachi music; their passion and their talent was second to none and so it was only right that they came out victorious at this competition,” said Roma ISD Superintendent Carlos Guzman. “We would like to congratulate the students, and their teachers and parents on this victory. Our Roma ISD Mariachi Director Eloy Garza always says that our Mariachi Program is composed of one family working toward one dream, a dream of excellence. We thank him and his staff, as well as everyone involved in keeping our students determined, focused and motivated to continue pursuing their dreams and showcasing our Gladiation Nation Pride. Thank you for representing Roma so well. We are extremely proud of everyone involved!”
