Roma ISD Earns “A” Rating in 2026 Texas School FIRST Financial Accountability System

Roma ISD is proud to announce that it has earned an “A” rating for Superior Achievement under the Texas Education Agency’s School Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (School FIRST) for 2026.
Roma ISD received an impressive score of 98 out of 100, placing the district among Texas school systems demonstrating strong financial management, accountability, and responsible stewardship of public funds.
The School FIRST rating is designed to provide the public with meaningful information about how school districts manage their financial resources. The system evaluates districts on a series of financial indicators that examine areas such as financial reporting, administrative costs, budgeting practices, debt management, and internal financial controls.
For Roma ISD, this recognition reflects the district’s ongoing commitment to transparency, fiscal responsibility, and maximizing the resources available to support student learning. Every financial decision carries an important responsibility: ensuring that taxpayer dollars are managed wisely and that district resources ultimately help provide the best possible educational opportunities for students.
The 98-point score is a reflection of the dedication and careful work of the Roma ISD Finance Department, district administrators, and staff members who work throughout the year to maintain sound financial practices and meet the state’s rigorous accountability requirements.
“An A rating and a score of 98 demonstrate the strength of our district’s financial management and the commitment of our team to being good stewards of the resources entrusted to us,” said Roma ISD Superintendent Carlos M. Gonzalez Jr. “We are proud of this accomplishment and grateful to the employees who work diligently behind the scenes to ensure that our district remains financially strong while keeping our students at the center of every decision.”
The Texas School FIRST system was established by TEA to encourage school districts to continuously improve their financial practices and to ensure that public education funds are managed effectively. The rating process examines multiple financial measures, including the accuracy and timeliness of financial information submitted to TEA, administrative expenditures, financial stability, and potential weaknesses in internal controls.
Roma ISD’s A rating and 98-point score reaffirm the district’s commitment to responsible financial stewardship and its mission of providing students with the resources and opportunities they need to succeed.
