Roma ISD Board of Trustees Accepts Resignation of Board President and Reorganizes Leadership

During a Special Called Meeting held on Friday, May 8, 2026, at 6 p.m., the Roma Independent School District Board of Trustees officially accepted the resignation of School Board President Ricardo A. Perez.
Following the acceptance of the resignation, each of the six board members took the opportunity to express their deep gratitude to Mr. Ricardo A. Perez for his devotion to Roma ISD over the past five decades through his tenure as a teacher, coach, administrator, game announcer, board member, and board president. It was clear that respect runs deep for Mr. Perez's passion to always attain the absolute best resources for the students of The Gladiator Nation. Many said they will continue to model their service after Mr. Perez, as he was a mentor to each member.
Members of the Board of Trustees then discussed and unanimously voted on a reorganization of board leadership positions.
Mary Lou G. Cruz was elected to serve as President of the Roma ISD Board of Trustees. Yadira A. Barrera was elected as Board Vice President, and Karina Mascorro was elected to serve as Board Secretary.
The remaining six members of the Roma ISD Board of Trustees remain committed to continuing the important work of serving the students, staff, and families of the district while ensuring a smooth leadership transition.
In the coming weeks, the board will explore the process for filling the vacant board seat created by the resignation. Roma ISD will continue to update the community as additional information regarding this process becomes available.
