Roma ISD Launches PREP Mentorship Program to Support and Strengthen Novice Teachers

Roma ISD is proud to announce the implementation of the Texas Education Agency's Preparing and Retaining Educators through Partnership (PREP) Mentorship Program for the 2026-2027 school year. This marks the first time Roma ISD will offer the innovative program, providing enhanced support and professional development opportunities for first- and second-year teachers across the district.
The PREP Mentorship Program is designed to help novice educators successfully navigate the challenges of the teaching profession by pairing them with trained mentor teachers who provide ongoing coaching, guidance, and support throughout the instructional day. Through structured mentoring relationships, new teachers receive valuable assistance as they develop effective classroom practices, strengthen instructional skills, and build confidence in their role as educators.
As part of the program, mentor teachers and campus leaders will participate in state-developed mentorship training focused on research-based mentoring practices and strategies. This specialized training ensures mentors are equipped with the tools and knowledge necessary to effectively support and encourage beginning teachers throughout their professional journey.
In addition to professional learning opportunities, the PREP Mentorship Program provides financial resources to support implementation efforts, mentor training, and dedicated mentoring time. The investment reflects the state's commitment to improving teacher retention and ensuring that novice educators receive the support they need to thrive in the classroom.
Roma ISD leaders believe the program will have a significant impact on teacher success and student achievement by fostering collaboration, professional growth, and a strong culture of support throughout the district.
"Our teachers are the foundation of student success, and we are excited to provide this additional level of support for our newest educators," said Roma ISD Superintendent Carlos M. Gonzalez Jr. "The PREP Mentorship Program is an investment in our teachers, our campuses, and ultimately our students. By equipping novice teachers with experienced mentors and meaningful professional development, we are helping build a strong foundation for long-term success in the classroom."
The launch of the PREP Mentorship Program aligns with Roma ISD's ongoing commitment to innovation, professional excellence, and ensuring that every educator has the resources needed to provide high-quality instruction for every student, every day.
As Roma ISD prepares for the new school year, district leaders look forward to seeing the positive impact this program will have on teacher development, retention, and student outcomes for years to come.
